| Resumo: | Objective: This work aims to study the perception of the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the Huambo Airport, this Angolan city and province. Methodology: A quantitative methodology based on a questionnaire survey was used, targeting the residents of the city of Huambo. The sample consisted of 669 surveys. Originality/Relevance: An airport structure is subject to public scrutiny as it has a significant social and economic impact. The airport is a structure that, in addition to economic and social impacts, affects the city's planning and management policy, carrying both positive and negative impacts. Results: The results show that Huambo Airport promotes development, seeks to maintain environmental balance and preserves the surrounding nature, as well as creating local employment. An exploratory factor analysis related to the perceptions of airport impacts allowed the observation of six factors: the impact and economic growth enabled by the airport, pollution caused, the valorisation of nearby properties, job promotion, and concern for nature preservation around the airport. Management contributions: This study is expected to contribute to the development of policies for the economic and social growth of cities. Therefore, it is believed that complementary sectors such as tourism, logistics, and commerce can benefit from the presence of the airport, along with an emphasis on professional development geared towards the airport industry. |
