A quantitative and qualitative combination of methods was used to measure relationships between variables and to contextualize the results found from 10,052 surveyed workers. We conducted interviews with six high command officers and a focus group comprised of seven members from the three highest organizational levels. Content analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used in the analysis process. Evidence was found that satisfaction with relationships is an antecedent of commitment, which mediates its relationships with other variables, such as work and personal characteristics. Understanding the organization's characteristics and the use of a substantial sample of its employees simultaneously allowed for testing complex structural models and investigating a labor segment that has been neglected by commitment research.ANPAD - Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Administração2014-10-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bar.anpad.org.br/index.php/bar/article/view/25810.1590/1807-7692bar2014276Brazilian Administration Review; Vol. 11 No. 4 (2014): Oct/Dec - 2014; 476-4951807-7692reponame:BAR - Brazilian Administration Reviewinstname:Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Administração (ANPAD)instacron:ANPADenghttps://bar.anpad.org.br/index.php/bar/article/view/258/247Copyright (c) 2019 Brazilian Administration Reviewhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLeite, Nildes Raimunda PitomboRodrigues, Ana Carolina de AguiarAlbuquerque, Lindolfo Galvão de2019-09-22T18:55:27Zoai:ojs3.bar.anpad.org.br:article/258Revistahttps://bar.anpad.org.br/index.php/bar/PUBhttps://bar.anpad.org.br/index.php/bar/oaibar-eic@anpad.org.br || bar@anpad.org.br1807-76921807-7692opendoar:2019-09-22T18:55:27BAR - Brazilian Administration Review - Associação Nacional de Pós-Graduação e Pesquisa em Administração (ANPAD)false
