Sumario:The aim of this study was to compare the lipids oxidation and the energy consumption during two alimentary situations: fasting and after carbohydrate ingestion. Eleven male individual were evaluated, at an average age of 23.40 ± 3.06 years old, that accomplished tests of progressive loads in a treadmill for determination of the maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max). Each volunteer carried out two submaximal tests at 60% of VO2max intensity, being advised to remain exercising during one hour later or until the exhaustion. Thirty minutes before each test, 350 ml of a drink composed by maltodextrin (1g/kg of weight) or placebo was ingested. During the test, the volunteers were monitored by an ergospirometer and a heart rate frequency monitor. The lipids oxidation was predicted by the breathing quotient, and the performance was verified by the time of exercise. In order to compare the metabolic parameters from the two tests, a t test for independent samples was applied. Significant differences were not observed in the test timing (p=0.590), lipids oxidation (p=0.771) and energy consumption (p=0.706) during the submaximal tests, even after the ingestion of the different drinks. As a result, carbohydrate ingestion before an aerobic exercise was not able to reduce the lipids oxidation nor to increase the performance of male healthy individuals
