The questions were designed so as to generate both anthropocentric (centred on the interests of the human being) and/or biocentric (centred on the interests of other beings) arguments. Results showed a high incidence of biocentric arguments, associated with a contact with animals in places where nature is managed (zoos and other thematic places with animals), thus contradicting the idea that children have an exclusive utilitarian view of animals. Some of them even seem to understand the ecological role of animals, and produce reasons of an ecocentric character.Este estudo procura verificar a perceção das crianças acerca do bem-estar dos animais, de estimação, domésticos e selvagens, tendo sido entrevistadas 123 crianças entre os 8 e os 10 anos a frequentar o 1º ciclo de escolaridade. As perguntas procuraram gerar argumentação antropocêntrica (centrada no ser humano) e/ou argumentação biocêntrica (centrada no interesse dos outros seres), apelando a aspetos vivenciais e valores da criança. Os resultados evidenciam uma elevada incidência de argumentação biocêntrica, associada a uma vivência de contato com os animais onde a natureza se encontra gerida (zoológicos e outros parques temáticos com animais), contrariando a ideia de que a criança durante a infância possui uma visão exclusivamente utilitária dos animais e, por isso, centrada no ser humano.
