| Resumo: | The urban development model has generated contexts of environmental degradation in contemporary cities and reproduces the stage of artificialization of relations between society and nature. The degradation of the natural environment reveals the form of appropriation and domination of nature developed by human beings. The decrease in vegetation cover corresponds to the most notorious form of this process, and is associated with the forms of use and occupation of space, and can cause extreme weather events such as heat islands, floods, among others. In the urban design of contemporary cities, concern for the environment is raised as an issue. In this regard, the recomposition of vegetation, as well as urban afforestation, revitalizes spaces and acts, among its multiple functions, to improve the microclimate, increasing the drainage of rainwater in the soil. Therefore, the objective of this article is to investigate the reasons associated with the decrease in vegetation cover in the city of Goiânia in relation to the morphology of the city. The methodology adopted was based on a translated review focused on the period 2015-2022. The results show a selection of 892 articles on the subject, of which only eight cover the municipality of Goiânia and 70% of the publications were made between 2019 and 2020. The studies point to the obstruction of urban expansion and the incorporation of other areas motivating the reduction of areas of natural vegetation.
