| Summary: | This paper aims to examine, briefl y, the tertiary sector of the economy of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. From the year 1990, this segment is presented as themain economic scenario montesclarense. Thus, we needed an accurate literature review, which added to the analysis of secondary data from statistical agencies and economics indicate, therefore, the progress of the tertiary sector. It was also necessary to address the factors and agents that led to the centrality of Montes Claros, highlighting the process of its historical background, geographical location, activities related to livestock, the arrival of the railroad, in addition to the investments of the Superintendency of Northeast Development - SUDENE, which contributed to the development of the city. As a result, there is the importance of the tertiary sector in the economy, considering the values generated by the GDP, the concentration of the number of jobs, in addition to producing revenue for the maintenance and expansion of urban structures. Thus, this study proposes discussions about the importance of this sector in Montes Claros, which parallel the development of industrial activities has been increased and now accounts for thelargest share in the composition of the GDP of the municipality. |
