Professional Identities. Librarians. Information Professionals.
Description
Summary:Construction and deconstruction of professional identities are discussed focusing librarians and information professionals, who have had their work deeply affected by information and communication technology. Factors helping to build professional identities and difficulties in establishing professional frontiers are analysed, especially regarding librarians. Rethinking librarianship is pointed out as a need (in spite of legal protection) resulting from the emergence of technologies coming from other groups of information professionals acting in the same area, aiming at the survival of librarians as an occupational group.
