Resumo:This article examines the civic republican model of agonistic democracy in Chantal Mouffe. We will show that the republican conception of Mouffean democracy lacks normative bases for the active participation of democratic citizenship in the political community. The text is divided into three parts: the first reconstructs Mouffe's civic republicanism; the second presents the Mouffean agonistic radical democracy; and, finally, it demonstrates the limits of this republican model of agonistic democracy.
