Sumario:Institutional care is a modality of substitute care used when the rights of children and adolescents are threatened or violated. The adolescents who live in substitute care are in a situation of fragility, considering that many have already experienced many risk situations, such as violence of all kinds. The objective of this study is to understand the perception of social educators’ perceptions about adolescents who live in institutional care. Nine social educators responded to an interview. The main results indicate that the challenges of educating adolescents are marked by the effects of both adolescence and experiences of past and current violence, search for the constitution of the identity lived with little social and emotional support, experience of risky behaviors.
