| Resumo: | A first analytical movement is carried out in order to understand how Catholicism interacts with television drama in Brazil. A documentary research was carried out in two areas: 1) public statements by sectors of the Catholic Church in the media; and 2) how television drama was appropriated by Catholic-inspired television stations. The conclusion is that the institution establishes an ambiguous relationship, characterized in three categories, namely, denial (i.e. criticism of religious sectors to the soap opera), appropriation (i.e. Catholic television stations producing television drama) and exhibition (i.e. broadcasting of content produced by other stations). |
