| Resumo: | The current paper proposes to carry out an anthroponymic study about the names and surnames of the registered children born in Bento Gonçalves over the last 4 years. For so, it was counted the 10 surnames with more occurrences among new borns in the period from 2018 to 2021, later categorized by ethnic origin and etymologically analyzed. It was also counted the top 10 male and female first names with more occurrences in the same period, all of them also etymologically analyzed, considering the Rio Grande do Sul State and the country Brazil. In addition, issues related to Onomastics and, within it, Anthroponymy, are also discussed with emphasis on the relationship between this science and the history of human occupation in the city of Bento Gonçalves. With regards to surnames, the results point to a progressive loss of the historical Italian origins of the city; and regarding names, there is evidence of local, state and national onomastic trends occurring. |
