| Summary: | Between 2021 and 2023, the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, through the “Brasil, essa é a nossa praia” Project (BNP), supported the development of Integrated Coastal Management Plans in 10 Brazilian tourist municipalities, following the methodology demonstrated in the Federal Government's “Projeto Orla”. This article provides historical context for the BNP project, presenting the activities undertaken in developing PGIs and their relationship with Responsible Tourism. The methodology was supported by exploratory and descriptive research, employing a qualitative approach through document analysis, literature review, interviews, and participant observation. As a result, the significant reach of the BNP across various regions of Brazil was noted, along with its focus on the Responsible Tourism agenda. The project has compelling implications for sustainability, tourist safety, and community-based tourism. It is concluded that there is a belief in the need for the Ministry of Tourism to continue and strengthen its role in such actions, recognizing the importance of expanding and enhancing projects like “Brasil, essa é a nossa praia”. |
