| Resumo: | In this paper, I analyze aspects of the teaching of grammar in Portugal, by means of corpus formed by the prefaces of the works Verdadeira grammatica latina (1615) and Methodo grammatical para todas as linguas (1619) by Amaro de Roboredo (~1580- 1653) and Verdadeiro método de estudar, letters 1, 2 and 16, by Luis António Verney (1713-1792), in order to reveal how these authors viewed, critically, the situation of the teaching of grammar (Latin) in Portugal at the time. The erasure, for over a hundred years, of Roboredo’s discourse, which was elaborated according to the principles of the most modern educational philosophy of his time (cf. Erasmus of Rotterdam Thomas More and Juan Luis Vives), makes clear the political difficulty of changing the Jewish teaching methodology, in force for almost a century. The resumption, by Luis António Verney, of the methodological principles already disseminated in Portugal more than a hundred years before, by Roboredo, corroborates the coherence of his linguistic-didactic ideas and was relevant for overcoming the Jewish method. The research was developed based on the theoretical principles of the History of Linguistic Ideas (Auroux 1992a, 1989, 2007; Colombat; Fournier; Puech 2010), especially in the category horizon of retrospection, of broad and specific levels (cf. Leite and Siqueira, 2021). |
