Sumario:Studies on Neotropical aquatic macrophytes have increased in recent decades. Nevertheless,the need for further investigations related to the dynamics of the distribution of these species in the Pantanal is recognized. This study aimed to describe the phytosociological variation of the aquatic macrophyte community, over a year, in a Pantanal lake, in the state of Mato-Grosso do Sul, by using fixed plots and estimating parameters of coverage, frequency, and importance value. We registered 21 species distributed in 17 genera and 12 families. Cyperaceae was the richest family and Eleocharis represented the richest genera, followed by Bacopa and Ludwigia. Salvinia auriculata stood out in frequency, coverage and consequently in importance value during most of the study period. However, it presenteda decrease in coverage during the months when the average water depth decreased. The results show a considerable variation in the frequency and coverage of some species over time, some of them significantly correlated with the fluctuation of the water level. Regarding the zonation, most species (69%) were distributed from shallower to deeper locations, considering the area studied. However, some species, mainly the emergent forms of life, were restricted to shallower areas.
