| Summary: | The notion of virtuality on modem society is discussed in this work departing from the thoughts of the french philosopher Pierre Lévy and from examples of movies and novéis widely broadcasted by the media. This concept, precious to the area of philosophy, is nowadays employed in many other fields of knowledge, is largely used by the media and is connected to the globalization of the economy and the so called new technologies. The broader usage of this concept should come as no surprise in a historical period in which new technologies and new social regulation mechanisms, not yet fully stabilized, gainspace. Although demanding different thinking paths, the new technologies of communication do not lead to ruptures in the way knowledge is transmitted, being, instead, integrated in a process that keeps comprising oral and written elements, now organized under afresh perspective. It should be noticed that sometimes, in this context, virtual could be taken for illusory, although this was not the original meaning of the term. |
