Descrição
Resumo:This paper have three main goals: (a) to identify geographic enclosures associated with the expansion of agriculture of extensive export crops and/or large-scale livestock during the period 1970-2020 in the Dry Chaco, (b) to produce a series of images that allow these processes to be visualized, and (c) to carry out an analytical approach to their adverse impacts on the ecological conditions of production and reproduction in which peasants have practiced extensive livestock farming historically. The analytical exercise is based in a historical-geographical perspective fed by primary data produced through field work in territory, field work in archives, and the interpretation of satellite images as historical sources. The paper provides evidence that the peasant production units at the commodity frontier that we took as the study area were progressively enclosedby intensive capital agricultural production units since the 1970s. That is, that access to their ecological production conditions and reproduction was restricted in the last half century. Finaly, the paper provides information that documents the historical presence of this peasantry in the Dry Chaco.
