Description
Summary:The audiovisual industry in Brazil is adapting to the technological changes made possible by media convergence. Cultural accessibility is an indispensable aspect of consumption for People with Disabilities (PwDs). The National Cinema Agency (ANCINE) works to expand the cultural accessibility process and implement it as a public policy. The purpose of this article is to discuss the issue of including cultural accessibility features in commercial streaming, analyzing the inclusion of accessible content on Netflix, Globoplay – the largest streaming in Brazil – and PingPlay – a service specific to the public of PwDs. Method with a qualitative and descriptive approach, including documentary research and case studies. The results point to the pressure of PwDs to demand cultural accessibility in these services, demonstrating the dimensions between the interest of translation as a mechanism for expanding markets, and the struggle for the social right of accessibility.
