Resumo:From the begining of the twentieth century the domination of the Arab peoples of North Africa and the Middle East has been intensified. The Powers came to control these countries and support dictators. In 2010-11 several uprisings emerged in these countries, calling for freedom and democracy. The West was put in check; must it  accept the self determination of the peoples or continue to preserve its geopolitical interests in the region?
