| Resumo: | Objective: To describe the importance of risk classification in emergency and urgent care nursing for patient safety. Methodology: A qualitative literature review conducted across several bibliographic databases, including PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Results: Risk classification proved to be an effective tool for prioritizing care, reducing wait times, and increasing patient safety. The implementation of triage systems based on welldefined clinical criteria contributes to the optimization of human and material resources, ensuring that patients with more severe conditions receive urgent care as needed. Conclusion: Triage and risk classification are essential for the safety and quality of care in emergency and urgent care services. The effective implementation of these systems, along with continuous training of the nursing team, can significantly improve the healthcare response to emergency situations, providing safer and more efficient care. |
