Resumo:This article deals with the descriptive representation for the organization of a collection of clothes in the Museum of Immigration of the State of São Paulo. The objective is to present a proposal for cataloging, from a piece of clothing, based on data provided by the museum's documentation analyst, using IFLA principles and the Resource Description and Access (RDA) code, in order to contribute with the retrieval of information in a more detailed and effective way for the researcher. The methodology used consists of a bibliographical survey about the history of cataloging, which supports some concepts and definitions about clothing; and an on-site field study, for the verification of the collection composed of approximately 700 pieces of clothing, among accessories and clothing. The theoretical support that supports the research includes authors from the field of Information Science, History and History of Fashion, such as Mey, Silveira, Barbosa, Braga and Cotrim
