| Resumo: | In this paper, we will demonstrate the political and linguistic-cultural aspects of literature and translation by studying the introduction and reception of Shakespeare's work in Brazil in the nineteenth century. We will emphasize the intertextual character of the practice of translation, which contributed to the formation of Brazilian literature through the interchange with French and British cultures, through Portuguese culture. Therefore, we will analyze aspects concerning the claim of French (16th century) and English (17th century) languages to the status of literary languages related to the rediscovery and translation of literary works, such as Shakespearean. |
