Summary:The article in question is the fruit of research carried out between 2004 and 2007, which had as its central role the study of the history, identity and local memory of the Catholic Church in the territoriality of Campo Grande. Acknowledging the social forms, the economic structures, the systems of social representations constructed with the church, focusing on reality and symbolic languages, replete with significance of the catholic doctrine, signaling a church as an institutional force of is spiritual practice, its interventions of planning and practice as a diocesan representative of the Brazilian episcopate. The study followed the dynamics of archival research, reading, analysis and interpretation of works specialized in the history of religion (catholic) characterizing territory as the logic of this structural set, and territoriality as an attribute of a determined social fact where ecclesiastical power of the metropolitan diocese circulates.
