| Sumario: | This article's central objective is to address the topic of online campaigns as an important instrument for mobilizing and boosting visibility by political actors involved in the electoral campaign scenario in recent years. We start with the following question: how were online campaign spending able to change the pattern of campaign spending in the 2020 Brazilian municipal majority elections? Faced with a universe that brings together the 5,568 electoral disputes held in Brazilian municipalities in the first round of elections, we collected data on accountability in the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) repository, performed optimization and analysis using the R software , which, based on descriptive analysis, revealed that, although online campaign spending represents a small portion of total expenses, its values occupy a prominent place when compared to other types of campaign expenses. We also verified that the non-inclusive nature of the Brazilian political system in the majority camp is reflected in spending on online campaigns. |
