| Sumario: | The revitalization of a minority language in the framework of states with a strong tradition of monolingualism policies makes opposing reactionary discourses emerge. This is the case of Spain and the languages that in recent decades have begun a revitalizing process, such as Catalan. The goal of this paper is to describe some of the main discursive frames contrary to the revitalization. It tries to show that they are often diversophobic ideologies, that is, that consider linguistic diversity as a problem, and also hierarchical, in the sense that they affirm the superiority of certain languages. An ecolinguistic perspective is located on the opposite pole: it claims linguistic diversity and the equality of all languages. |
