| Sumario: | Public Health Post graduation Program from Araçatuba Dental School, São Paulo State University, has introduced the Dental Attention for Pregnant Woman Program since 1999 aiming the prevention of oral and general health of future moms. The aim of this study is to relate the experience of this university extension Project during ten years (education and prevention purpose) and analyze the results about education and prevention actions with pregnant women from 1999 to 2009. This Project gets integrality principle developing promotion and prevention activities about oral and general health, and dental treatment. Educational Meetings are performed about themes linked to dental attendance during pregnancy, the importance of mother’s and future baby’s health attention, breastfeeding, diet, and the main oral problems. Office attending consists of health education and prevention and healing clinical proceeding. During this time 737 pregnant women were cared and they participated to near 6 educational meetings by year. The initial and final DMFT of pregnant women shows improvement on their oral health. Educational actions about oral health and prevention and healing attendance improve oral health condition of pregnant women that took part in the program. These data show the impact of the program in the assisted population, because it enables to see all treatment needs, promoting oral and general health and contributing with formation process of dental surgeon, making the link among teaching, research and health service. |
