Sumario:The first edition of the book The Athlete and the Myth of the Hero turns 20 in 2021. In this trajectory many publications have used it as a reference. Books, book chapters, articles, graduation papers, master's dissertations, doctoral theses and even widely circulated newspapers and magazines. This took place in a total of ten different countries. This article proposes a look at the 210 works analysed in an attempt to understand the place of the referred book in their productions. We start with a brief passage through the main events of the year of publication of the first edition (2001) and continue with an academic analysis of the 110 articles, 12 graduation papers, 44 Master's dissertations and 17 Doctoral theses. The descriptors used were: year of publication, area of ??knowledge, educational institution, characteristics of the title and country. It was noticed the predominance of dialogue with Psychology and Physical Education, yet 23 other areas of knowledge included it in their productions. Citations were found, even in the year 2020. We concluded that the book The Athlete and the Myth of the Hero is a work that can be considered a classic of the Psychology of Sport and its new edition will be of fundamental importance to this area of ??knowledge.
