The theoretical-methodological basis is found in Bakhtin (1996, 2016, 2018), Medvedev (2019) and Voloshinov (2013, 2017). The material to be used in this study consists of four memes collected on Facebook, between 2019 and 2020. The article examines the relationship between the language of the public square carnival and that used in memes; the process of carnivalization and the type of laughter present in the memes. The results show that political memes make use of unpolished ways of saying, of questioning that signal the lowering of the other, through criticism or debauchery, stirring the laughter of internet users who share the same critical position of the creator of the memeEste artigo analisa a carnavalização (Bakhtin 1996, 2018) em memes políticos que circulam na internet. Partimos da hipótese de que o gênero escolhido se caracteriza pela inversão da “lógica natural” dos objetos, pela representação “ao avesso” de fatos da “vida oficial” e pelo riso carnavalesco. A fundamentação teórico-metodológica é encontrada em Bakhtin (1996, 2016, 2018), Medviédev (2019) e Volóchinov (2013, 2017). O material a ser analisado neste trabalho é um recorte constituído de quatro memes coletados no Facebook, entre os anos de 2019 e 2020. Examinamos a relação entre a linguagem da praça pública carnavalesca e a utilizada nos memes; o processo de carnavalização e o tipo de riso presente nos memes.
