| Sumario: | The article focuses in a succession approximately chronologic the most striking events in the relationship between the major personalities of the Frankfurt School – specially Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer and Herbert Marcuse, among others – and the politically organized students of the Wolfgang Goethe University, located in the city that lent its name to the aforementioned current of thought. The text seeks to show that the relationship between the students and its intelectual mentors has been always quite ambiguous, since the main leaders of these – including the most outstanding like Hans Jürgen Krahl – declared themselves on one hand theoretically inspired by the philosophers of the Frankfurt School, on the other hand felt betrayed by them, since they considered their support insufficient (except for Herbert Marcuse’s position) facing the very difficult political situation faced by the German student’s movement at that time. |
