Resumo:Current analysis investigates woman's identity effects, within the context of novel developments experienced by males and females in contemporary society, as from the self-discourse that she spreads around. Who is the contemporary woman may thus be analyzed through her word and her discourse. Since discourse is the materialization of ideology and the latter is "the condition foregrounding the establishment of the subject and of meaning" (ORLANDI, 2002: 46), it is through discourse that we establish ourselves as subjects. Theory and analysis are based on the French Discourse Analysis, especially on the concepts of heterogeneity and subject/form. Psychoanalysis has been a subsidy in so far as it postulated the idea of a desiring subject and of the female as a symptom. A corpus of ten interviews with females featuring a diversity of traits was analyzed. Interviews started with the following question: "Is it a pleasure being a woman? Why?" Through interview responses the process of female interpellation, or female-produced effect, was produced and described. Off-cuff opinions, or rather, what is released in the discursive web by contemporary woman, are reported in the context of the description and interpretation. Results show that present day woman situates herself within the context fabricated by male discourse practices which are history and ideology bound and materializes itself within the male dominant discourse. However, heterogeneity, inherent to the constitution of the subject, produces a mere incomplete interpellation, which may be verified by current equivocal statements and gaps in feminine discourse. It may be stated that contemporary woman reproduces a discourse composed of male, feminist and other discursive forms which dominant ideology spreads around and propagates. Contemporary woman also expresses "another" discourse that disrupts the presumed homogeneity of what may be called "feminine discourse". It may be stated that woman is, therefore, an effect, albeit an effect with developments, or rather, the materialization of heterogeneity.
