Descrição
Resumo:African and Creole slave labor has been used significantly in southern Brazil since the 18th century. In this article, the objective is to present the ritual and fictitious kinship relations between the enslaved adults with their respective godfathers and godmothers through the historical documentation of baptism records of the Paróquia de São José de Taquari, dating from the years 1805 to 1850. The approach theoretical and conceptual research takes place through the onomastic method and micro-history. From the analysis of the documents, a historiographical gap in southern Brazil about the use of labor by enslaved people can be mentioned. The historical elements investigated reveal establishments of crony relationships, social protection strategies and, on the other hand, a manorial control mechanism.
