Descripción
Sumario:This article seeks to verify possible impacts caused by participation in Internet’s social networks on Brazilian democratic values, as well as the level of trust and distrust of these values towards political institutions in the country. In this regard, we used the preferential source of political information of individuals, to investigate the existence (or not) of differences between those who get their information through social media compared with those who prefer other means to inform themselves. The data used in this article are provided by the Brazilian Electoral Study (ESEB) from 2018. From the results yielded, it was not possible to establish a clear relationship between the use of social networks as primary source of information and the lack of trust in political institutions, as well as when it comes to regulatory support to the system and values more or less authoritarian.
