Sumario:This article approaches an experience report of the actions developed in the extension project “Physical Therapy in Maternal and Child Care”. This project aimed to promote the improvement of the quality of health care for pregnant women. The project held monthly lectures on changes that occur during pregnancy and guidelines on motor development in the child's first year of life. Project professors and students also performed physical therapy assessments (individually) and therapeutic exercises to relieve the discomforts reported by pregnant women. The most frequent changes observed with pregnant women were: nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, pain and/or discomfort characterized by a twinge in the lumbar and/or abdominal regions. Thus, through the monitoring of pregnant women, it was possible to act on the changes resulting from pregnancy during the puerperium, in addition to offer orientations about how to stimulate babies in the first year of life. Physical therapy's importance in pregnant women is emphasized, to minimize discomfort and preparation for preparation, in addition to the fundamental role that physiotherapists play in monitoring child motor development.
