Summary:The objective of this study was to carry out the phytosociological characterization of tree species and tree ferns from a plantation with mixed rainforest regeneration in the Irati National Forest. Twenty-two sample units (500m² each) were evaluated. Which were systematically distributed within permanent plots of 10 hectares, installed in an araucaria plantation without intervention for 70 years. Tree individuals with a DBH of more than 10cm and tree ferns with a height greater than 1.3m were measured and identified. The phytosociological parameters of dominance, density and frequency were calculated, obtaining the importance value index (IVI). The spatial distribution was also calculated using the MacGuinnes Index, for the 10 tree species with the highest IVI and for the tree ferns. A total of 1,632 individuals were sampled, 950 arboreal and 682 arborescent ferns, distributed in 51 arboreal species and four species of ferns. The species Alsophila setosa had the highest density (601 individuals/ha), the highest dominance was the species Araucaria angustifolia (34.1450m²/ha), being also the species with the highest frequency and highest IVI (30.66%). The only species classified in the upper stratum was Araucaria angustifolia, and all tree ferns in the lower stratum. For the distribution pattern, Araucaria angustifolia followed a uniform pattern, along with Cedrela fissilis, Ilex paraguariensis and species of the genus Cyathea. On the other hand, most species tended to cluster and only two were classified as aggregated, namely Alsophila setosa and Cabralea canjerana.Â
