We outline a brief overview of the problems associated with the capitalist development model and discuss the extent to which the permacultural movement presents itself as alternative to the hegemonic development model. We also verify the viability of permaculture within an ecology of knowledge (Santos, 2009) which encompasses communication and sustainable developmentEste artigo propõe-se a discutir em que medida a comunicação voltada ao desenvolvimento e mudança social (Tufte, 2013; 2015) se conecta epistemicamente com pressupostos da permacultura e pode contribuir objetivamente para o movimento permacultural orientado por um senso comunitário. Traçamos um breve panorama das problemáticas associadas ao modelo de desenvolvimento capitalista e discutimos em que medida o movimento permacultural contribui para a constituição de um modelo alternativo ao desenvolvimento hegemônico.
