Descrição
Resumo:The Artist Book Collection (CLA) of UFMG is at the same time an artistic and bibliographic collection and therefore has some specificities. We present the criteria adopted by the curatorship for the inclusion of works in the collection, considering their contribution to teaching and research activities from four axes: the context of the emergence of artist's books (concrete poetry, conceptual art and mail art); the main publishers specialized in artist's books; the best known book artists and historically important bookworks. As with similar collections, CLA has other types of artist's publications, which is explained in a typology of works. In order to encourage the formation of other collections, we share our policies for the acquisition of books and their organization on themes defined on research in reference works. One of the main ways of publicizing the CLA is through thematic exhibitions accompanied by the publication of articles or essays. Based on his experience, the author raises some questions about the differences between curating a collection and curating an exhibition.
