| Resumo: | Abstract. Having completed 100 years of Distance Education (EaD) in Brazil, this article aims to discuss its future, its relationship with cyberculture and the use of Metaverse as a tool for mediating teaching and learning in EaD. To this end, current concepts about the Metaverse are highlighted, with a thorough analysis of its origin, as well as perspectives of use and impacts on distance learning. Methodologically, this work originated from a consistent bibliographical research, with a narrative literature review being carried out, considering established authors, prioritizing the most up-to-date studies on the subject, contributing to the production of knowledge on this topic.
