| Sumario: | This paper aims, confronting past and present, to analyze the origins of the two main soccer clubs of Florianopolis, Brasil, Avaí Futebol Clube and Figueirense Futebol Clube, trying to understand the characterizations of “Club of Elits” and “Popular Club”, which are respectively attributed to them. Such generalizations are problematized, bringing up reflections on the legitimacy of these attributions that, despite attending the imaginary, are invented traditions, since both clubs were historical built with the joint presence of people from different social extracts. Finally, the intention of the article is also to highlight what has changed regarding to the sense of club belonging of the fans of both clubs throughout their long history.
