Sumario:This paper analyzes the contribution of Malebranche's thought to the formation of Vichian metaphysics as it is expressed in the De antiquissima italorum sapientia. In particular, the comparison with Malebranche's philosophy allows Vico to specify three fundamental themes: the reduction of the Cartesian cogito to the function of conscience; the explanation of the concept of animi mens; the determination of the possibilities and limits of our knowledge.
