| Resumo: | This article is located in the field of urban research when analyzing the morphology-functional of the intra-urban space of Januaria/MG, based on the application of the morphologicalfunctional zoning model for medium-sized cities in Minas Gerais, developed by Amorim Filho (2007). The methodological structure was based on bibliographic and documentary research, field immersion, construction of the morphological-functional cartogram of the urban space of Januaria and iconographic record. Theoretical and empirical analyses have shown that the space organization of Januaria was initially formed according to the proximity to the San Francisco River, where the expansion of the urban spot was driven by population growth, public policies and urban equipment, after the 1980s. The morphological-functional representation of the urban nucleus made it possible to recognize Januaria as a middle city "on the threshold", in which intra-urban space is configured as a result of singular and general geographic spatial processes. |
