| Resumo: | The study described in this paper has the aim of presenting an analysis of Evoked Concept Images of college students about the concept of continuity of a function. A diagnostic study was developed with fifteen students in a mathematics course at a public university located in Belém (Pará). The students answered a group of tasks involving the concept of continuity of a function; Their answers were analyzed according to the assumptions of the Theory of Concept Image and Concept Definition (Vinner, 1991). It was verified that the concept image of the investigated students was based on the comprehension of continuity as connectivity, wholeness, fluidity, absence of jumps and/or holes in their graphic representations. Most students experienced cognitive conflict when attempting to understand the relationship between domain, limit, and continuity. |
