Description
Summary:Alongside the linguistic turn in social sciences, there is an increase on the interest in the role of narratives and other discursive practices in the processes of meaning making. Within the psychotherapeutic field, such interest can be noticed in the emergence of the so-called “post-modern therapies” whose epistemological foundation leads us to rethink clinical theory and practice. Under the paradigm of these therapies, we can highlight the influence of social constructionism as a metatheory in two approaches: narrative therapy (White & Epston) and collaborative approach (Anderson & Goolishian). This paper presents the similarities and differences between the two approaches, discussing the socio-constructionist influence as an epistemological foundation of those practices and exploring the transformations of psychotherapy in the current scenario.
