Descrição
Resumo:This article intends to present a comparative analysis of Brazilian and Portuguese education during their military dictatorships: the Brazilian Civil-Military Dictatorship of 1964 (1964-1985) and the Portuguese Estado Novo (1933-1974). The research will be of a bibliographic and documentary nature and will seek to understand the relationship between education and society, especially the project of society idealized by civil-military dictatorial governments. The theoretical-methodological framework adopted in the investigation was historical-dialectical materialism, in the perspective of investigation of the comparative history of education. We used bibliographies by Brazilian and Portuguese authors, which helped us to understand the historical, political and educational backgrounds experienced in the countries. The documentary sources used were the Brazilian and Portuguese educational laws. Despite some particularities, the education of both countries is similar in several aspects, such as the need for a new national identity, the dualities of education/instruction and higher education/professionalization of secondary education, appreciation of national traditions and strengthening of morality and civility.
