description The idea of schools as institutions has become an important field of historical research on education in Brazil. It offers a comprehensive view of educational processes (creation, operation and extinction of schools, architecture, furniture, practices, values, traditions etc.). However, it is likely that there may be gaps in this type of history study. For instance, schools with little representation in approaches and studies as well as studies on history of schools in certain states such as Goiás. This research refers to these two issues in taking as its subject the constitution of public and semi public schools in Cachoeira Dourada, state of Goiás, and broadens the list of categories of the history of schools. The research aimed to build a historical understanding of relations between Goiás and Brazilian governments in the circumstances of constitution and social, economic development of Cachoeira Dourada; the development of education in this city and the creation and functioning of three schools. This study relies on documental and empirical data. It troubles its subject historically in a qualitative and quantitative approach, besides following principles of Marxist dialectical method and being structured with derived from historical contextualization, specific bibliography reading, informal talks with Cachoeira Dourada’s residents and school community, visiting to archives, and development of pedagogical activity involving elementary students to gather records of Cachoeira Dourada’s past. Sources included house minutes and legislation (educational and non-educational), memoranda, newspaper stories, magazine articles, attendance books, manuscripts, student books and meeting minutes, among others. Bibliographical sources include memoir books, including of a former headmaster. Statistical data include educational and demographic numbers. Iconographic sources refer to photographs. Oral sources include informal conversations with former directors, former students, former teachers, and former school staff and Cachoeira Dourada older residents. The treatment of the sources followed procedures such as reading, summary making, note taking, data tabulation, description, organization of categories, among others. The research focused on time interval of I960 to 1971. Reading the history of education in Brazil and in Goiás together with the analysis of sources allows saying the beginnings of the history of Cachoeira Dourada and of its education link to interests much more political than educational. A peculiar situation arises: the coexistence of two types of public schools: one fully maintained by the municipality, the other maintained by a state-owned company in partnership with its service providers. The intersection between the public and the private in national education is visible in limits of school funding and structuring; teaching body composition; management and functioning; curricular guidelines; pedagogical and didactic practices; school ends. Regardless of whether it was public or partially private, schools in Cachoeira Dourada had a similar existence: of need and improvisation, of lack of material and human resources.

Oferece uma visão abrangente dos processos educacionais (criação, o funcionamento e extinção de escolas, arquitetura, mobiliário, práticas, valores e tradições etc.). Mas é provável que tenha lacunas, ou seja, escolas com pouca representação nos enfoques e estudos. Também lacunares são os estudos sobre instituições escolares em Goiás. Esta pesquisa remete a essas duas questões ao tomar como objeto de estudos a constituição dos grupos escolares em Cachoeira Dourada, GO, no contexto ampliando o rol de categorias da história das instituições escolares. A pesquisa objetivou construir uma compreensão histórica das relações entre o governo goiano e governo federal nas circunstâncias de formação e desenvolvimento social e econômico de Cachoeira Dourada; do desenvolvimento da educação no então distrito de Cachoeira Dourada e da gênese e instalação de três Grupos Escolares. A pesquisa é de natureza documental e empírica, com um enfoque histórico problematizador do objeto de estudo e procedimentos da abordagem qualitativos e quantitativos. Seguiu princípios do método dialético marxista e se estruturou em procedimentos com contextualização histórica, levantamento de bibliografia; conversas informais com moradores e comunidade escolar; visita a arquivos; e desenvolvimento de atividade pedagógica envolvendo alunos da educação básica para levantamento de registros do passado de Cachoeira Dourada. As fontes documentais incluíram atas da Câmara e legislação (escolar e não escolar), ofícios, memorandos, notícias de jornal, reportagens de revistas, diários, livros de matrícula, livros de ponto, manuscritos, caderno de aluno e atas de reunião, dentre outros. As fontes bibliográficas incluem livros memorialistas e as memórias que uma ex-diretora escreveu sobre uma escola pesquisada. As fontes estatísticas incluem dados educacionais e demográficos. As fontes iconográficas se referem a fotografias. As fontes orais incluem conversas informais com ex-diretores, ex-alunos, ex-professores e ex- funcionários de escolas e moradores mais antigos de Cachoeira Dourada. O tratamento das fontes se desdobrou em procedimentos como leitura crítica, fichamento, tomada de notas e tabulação de dados, descrição, organização de categorias, dentre outros. O recorte da pesquisa se refere ao intervalo de tempo 1960-71. A leitura da história da educação no Brasil e em Goiás junto com a leitura das fontes permite dizer que os primórdios da história de Cachoeira Dourada, GO, como Distrito e de sua educação estiveram ligados a interesses muito mais políticos do que educacionais. A situação peculiar é que passaram a coexistir dois tipos de escolas subvencionadas pelo Estado: um Grupo Escolar mantido pelo município e um por empresa estatal e empresas prestadoras de serviço. Fica visível a intersecção do público com o privado no campo da educação nacional: os limites do financiamento; a estruturação escolar; a composição do corpo docente, administrativo e funcional, as diretrizes curriculares e as práticas pedagógicas e didáticas; os fins da escola.
