Descrição
Resumo:Radical democracy is a political theory whose central problem is the dilemma of the plural. This dilemma consists in understanding democratic politics as a locus of antagonisms. In this sense, antagonisms can be characterized by the strong conflictual opposition between us/them. However, for Chantal Mouffe (1995a; 1995b; 2015), antagonism does not have to be annihilating. Agonistic relationships are relationships that keep the antagonistic conflict open without necessarily leading to annihilation. This is because agonistic relationships transform enemy relationships (antagonisms) into adversary relationships. This adversarial transformation necessarily occurs through the recognition of a foundation common to all. Furthermore, an adversarial transformation leads directly to a new conception of the citizen who becomes a middle term and at the same time a mediating term of agonistic relations. Thus, the present work will present the theoretical formulations of radical democracy, in order to present a conception of citizen of this theoretical current. That is, an exegesis of the main works of Chantal Mouffe will be made, highlighting the central concepts and the logical cadence that reverberates in the notion of radical citizen.
