| Resumo: | The dioscoreáceas constitute an important source of food are distributed in tropical and subtropical worldwide. The genus Dioscorea, which belongs to most species of wild and cultivated family, encompassing tropical species native to Africa asia and America.The objective was to survey the varieties of yams (Dioscorea sp.) Grown by farmers in order to verify the species kept by them and their diversity, popular names of the varieties and on the production system of culture as: preparation of tubers seeds, crop management, soil preparation, planting, cultivation and marketing. To the top of the field research was used to sampling the kind of "snowball", which consisted of talking to some farmers and vegetable sellers in the markets of the region for the location of the main farmers who grow yams. During the fieldwork, there were 48 farmers growing different crops and also plant the yams (Dioscorea sp.), With their respective names to the popular genre.Tubers were found in two species: Dioscorea alata and D.trifida. Soil preparation is done in a very rudimentary, and the cultivation of yams is done in the system "smacks of touch."14% of farmers used some type of agricultural implement for soil tillage.The seed preparation varies with each species, 55% of the seeds are planted matches and 45% whole. The organization of production and destination happen in communities where a large part is devoted to the family diet (71%), and the surplus is for sale delivered straight to consumers and intermediaries. |
