Descripción
Sumario:In Lukács’ Theory of the Novel, the novelist is a creator of forms. He must be able, by means of forms, to engender a totality from the elements of a fragmented world. Focusing the exercise of criticism, this article aims to show the influence of conceptions of form in analysis and judgment of literary works, in the Theory of the Novel and in some essays of Lukács in the thirties. Then, the discussion is extended to the criticism of Antonio Candido and Roberto Schwarz and concludes that the three critics move, to some extent, in the same field of interrelated problems, but also that the Brazilians work with a conception of literary form, which is at once more particularly historical and more autonomous than the available references.
