Descripción
Sumario:The incorporation of public spaces within the urban perimeter of a city meets the need to promote socio-environmental quality in its diameter of coverage. In relation to the Montes Claros - MG, Sapucaia Park is an example of an urban green area that offers not only social benefits, but also ecosystem benefits to the population. In order to improve the discussions on how a green area interferes in the environmental dynamics of the city and, consequently, in the living and health conditions of citizens, the objective of this article was to evaluate the social and ecosystem importance of Sapucaia Park in promoting the quality of life of the population. The methodological procedure adopted began with a bibliographic review where the concepts of public spaces, urban parks and green areas were studied; followed by a visit to Sapucaia Park to identify its functionalities. The results obtained confirm that the mentioned park exerts an esthetic, social and ecosystem functionality, becoming an important mechanism for promoting the population's quality of life. Using Sapucaia Park as an example, it is necessary to think about planning policies that consider the implementation of green areas, such as urban parks, to improve the quality of life of the population residing in other regions of the city.
