| Resumo: | This article presents unprecedented data on the lithic technology of pre-colonial archaeological sites known as Stilt Villages, a name that comes from the stilts that supported the houses in a flooded environment. These settlements are located in the Baixada Maranhense an estuarine region made up of rivers and lakes near to the São Luís Island, in the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The lithic materials of these sites are made up of different polished instruments (chipped and perforated), which, from the reconsitution of their operative chains, were classified in order to understand aspects such as raw materials, technologies and possible uses. |
