Descripción
Sumario:This article investigates the beginning of precast construction in Brazil, particularly with the participation of the architect João Filgueira Lima (Lelé). The historical precedents of reinforced and prestressed concrete in the country and the influence of his professional training on works in Brasília (especially at UnB) in the early 1960s are considered. He graduated in 1955 from the Faculdade Nacional de Arquitetura no Rio de Janeiro, Lelé had basic training at the Military School and higher education that was more technical than artistic. From this, it is worth detailing the works and demonstrating that the use of the UnB construction site as a large open-air power plant, making use of the experience in prestressed structures with large pieces and generating large spans, ends up configuring generous spaces and relevant buildings. The result demonstrates that, from the tradition in reinforced concrete and Lelé's mastery of technique and artistic perfection, the precast works of UnB acquired unique characteristics in Brazil and in the world.
