description The school garden is a pedagogical tool used in all stages of basic education in Brazilian schools. Through this educational resource, it is possible to explore different contents, especially those related to Science Teaching, Food and Environmental Education. The objective of the research was to understand how educational practices developed in school gardens are associated, from an agroecological perspective, with teaching-learning theories. To this end, an integrative literature review was carried out on Google Scholar and Scielo, using the keywords “school garden” AND “basic education” AND “Brazil”, seeking to understand which school practices are used within the school garden space. With the results, it was clear that the methodologies used in 32 works carried out in Brazilian schools revolve around a student-centered perspective, respecting their prior knowledge and valuing their regional and local realities, corroborating the theories presented by Ausubel (2000), Moreira (2005) and Freire (2007) which are in accordance with the principles of Agroecological Education. In the living space of the garden, classes on various subjects take place, such as Geography, Mathematics, Portuguese, History and Sociology. Therefore, as a pedagogical practice it has an interdisciplinary character and the activities developed involve different teaching and learning possibilities.

Therefore, as a pedagogical practice it has an interdisciplinary character and the activities developed involve different teaching and learning possibilities.
